The Balkan Peninsula therefore includes most of Slovenia Croatia and Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina Montenegro Albania Macedonia continental Greece (including the Peloponnesus) Bulgaria European Turkey and SE Romania. These countries successors to the Ottoman Empire are called the Balkan States.
