The basic scales are sa-gr_ma and ma-gr_ma. The more important of these, the sa-gr_ma, closely approximates the C Major scale. Ma-gr_ma, which differs from the sa-gr_ma in only one interval, is said to have disappeared from use about the 16th cent.
