Trying to prevent Hitler from seizing power, Schleicher demanded authority from President Hindenburg to dissolve the Reichstag and to assume emergency powers. Hindenburg refused and, after Schleicher's resignation (Jan. 28, 1933), appointed Hitler chancellor.
