Roman architecture refers to the buildings created during the height of the Roman empire. Design was a major facet of these buildings and often included specific details. Columns or pillars, temple layouts and the use of geometry were usually found in these buildings. There was also the use of domes and arches for functionality and design.

Famous Roman Buildings include those that people know and those that still stand in some form. The Pantheon is a great example as people come from around the world every year simply to see this building in person.

The Arch and the Dome were often used by the Romans in both public and private buildings. These arches and domes are different than those found in other cultures, but highly influenced the way buildings were created. There are some examples of buildings based around a series of arches or a dome.

Large Scale Buildings were another important facet of Roman architecture. These buildings were often used as public spaces such as meeting halls and government buildings. Also falling under this category were stadiums and amphitheaters.

The Influence of Roman architecture on Modern Architecture is clearly evident even today. Government and public buildings in the United States are a great example. There are a large number of courthouses and other similar buildings with a dome, arches, pillars or other decorative trait found in Roman architecture.
