They are found in the Atlantic Ocean in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. Stargazers of both families are classified in the phylum Chordata , subphylum Vertebrata, class Osteichthyes, order Perciformes, families Uranoscopidae and Dactyloscopidae.
