In 428, Gunderic, the Vandal king, died and was succeeded by his brother, Gaiseric , whose leadership carried the tribe to its greatest heights. The Vandals were Arian Christians, and, especially under Gaiseric and his son, Hunneric, they harshly persecuted Orthodox Christianity.
