Many modern medicines had their origin in medicinal plants. Examples include aspirin from willow bark ( Salix spp. ), digitalis from foxglove ( Digitalis purpurea ), and vinblastine from Madagascar periwinkle ( Vinca rosea ) for the treatment of childhood leukemia .
