Reutlingen was a free imperial city from the mid-13th cent. until it passed (1802-3) to Württemberg. In 1377 the Swabian League defeated Duke Ulrich of Württemberg there. Reutlingen was the first Swabian city to accept the Protestant Reformation (16th cent.).
